Current obsession - Turtle necks..

One thing I love about fashion and trends is that they are forever changing and being altered through time. It's interesting that this particular trend didn't ever change through time, rather I did. Turtle necks/Polo necks whatever you want to call them, they've always been around. Probably at the height of their fame in the 90s when Cher from Clueless rocketed them into the spotlight with her turtle neck/plaid combos. Everyone was wearing them to complete their preppy look and they never really died out after that. A wardrobe staple for many but never for me. When I was younger there wasn't any item of clothing I hated more than the turtle neck, honestly I can't describe how many fusses I would kick up because my mum wanted me to wear one from the Zara kids range. It's quite funny that all the things you love as an adult you hate as a child, now I absolutely adore Zara and ideally would love my child to dress in their beautiful childrens clothes, but to a young girl who's trying so hard to fit in, Zara turtle necks and cords didn't exactly scream "I'm cool".

The turtle neck started to creep up on me a few months ago, I noticed more and more of them popping up on blogs, instagram and in magazines. At first I didn't know what to make of them, all of a sudden I wasn't feeling ill over the thought of them but rather admiring them (still not wearing though, that step took some time). It wasn't until I walked into Zara one day before Christmas and set eyes on the most beautiful turtle neck I'd ever seen that my life changed forever. I was officially old and my tastes were changing and I actually loved a turtle neck! From this day on I've been smitten and I find myself picking them up in nearly every shop I see them in. So in a tribute to the Turtle neck I've decided to create a Polyvore set of all my favourite ones, designer and high street. Hopefully you're inspired and if you still hate them like I used to then maybe this post will have you reconsidering. I think you're officially old when you find yourself picking up clothes and saying "not only is this nice but it'll keep me warm TOO".

Big ups to not being fourteen and shivering in the snow because coats "aren't cool".
Lots of love,
Katie.

Dry January...

Bonjour!
I'm saying bonjour because I have fab news that I want to tell everyone and I thought I should start my post with a French word, seeing as I've become a complete Francophile ever since booking a trip to PARIS!
Yes I've managed to do the sensible thing with my student loan and book myself a trip to Paris at the end of February. Initially me and my boyfriend decided we wanted to go to Paris and thought we may as well book it over his birthday so we can celebrate being 23 in gay Paris. Oh and did I mention that it's fashion week while I'm there? that had nothing to do with me choosing the dates I swear....

I actually don't think I'll be able to handle all the beautiful people that will be everywhere when I'm there so I'll try my best to get as many street style snaps of them as I possibly can for you all to drool over. Saying that Paris is definitely the hardest city for getting close to any shows or beautiful people (French Somerset house anyone?) so I'll probably be hanging outside the buildings like a crazy fan girl hoping Rhianna is at the Chanel show and wants to be my mate. Of course there's much more to Paris than fashion week (ummm) so I'd love if anyone reading this has been and could fill me in on some hidden gems they found while visiting.

Also on the topic of street style I was thinking maybe I should start doing some of that in Liverpool so that I didn't always have to post pictures of myself (which I am not fond of doing but I've made a promise to do more) I actually don't even know what clothes to post myself in because I haven't done ANY shopping with my loan as I'm saving for Paris. I'm definitely one of those melters who isn't going to stop talking about their holiday until about 5 months after they're back, #sorrynotsorry.

So in place of all the clothes I'm NOT BUYING I've decided to make a list of my favourite items of clothing (that I want and can pretend I have until I can start spending money again) for January. This is my dry January unfortunately.

P.s there are links to everything here underneath ;)
Lots of love,
Katie xx

New year, same me, less fried chicken...

Hello and welcome to my new and improved blog where I actually blog, frequently!

This is a bit of a New Years resolution blog post and I have something very serious to discuss. I know it's something that many people suffer with as well as myself so I thought I'd talk about it here, seeing as it's a new year and I've vowed to try and change in order to rid myself of this problem. I don't know if there's a medical term for it so I've invented my own; colourphobia. I wouldn't say I'm terrified of colour, more that I simply CANNOT stop buying black clothes. If shops could stop making really nice variations of black chunky and fine knit jumpers then my life would be a whole lot easier, and don't even get me started on ASOS' amazing £28 version of the infamous Joni Jeans.
Is it just me or does everything look better in black? I think black can save your life in so many ways, it makes you look slimmer, it's classy, and if you like me are a fan of the flamboyant accessory then it's definitely the right colour for you. Asides from all these facts, black's just cool.

While I'm on a role with my confessions and "must stop doing" list I suppose I should address my problem with Instagram. Now nothing makes me happier than coming across a new Instagram profile that's beautifully laid out, full of symmetry and lines and black and white pictures of lovely expensive things. I don't think I'm the only person who suffers from Insta Envy but it's not pretty and I'm definitely trying to shake my jealously of people with nicer and what looks like more fun lives than mine. Who cares that they get to travel around the world to Greece for a tan and then Berlin for shopping... not me? (I'm working on it)

I think I'm a bit of a "grass is always greener" gal when I want to be and it's not really something I plan to continue doing because I have plenty of my own talents and things to be thankful for. I think one of the best qualities we can have as human beings is self belief, when I was younger self confidence was something I had in abundance and to all the females out there you'll know what I mean when I say other girls can literally SMELL IT. When you're 14 you're not supposed to have confidence, how dare you in fact! so I sort of made a point of trying to not act like I was self assured, but to be honest at 20 I feel a lot more comfortable being my whole self around the people in my life now. If you haven't already done so I suggest you make a point of ridding your life of anyone who makes you feel bad about being yourself. Surround yourself with people who actually like you for you and you'll start to feel a whole lot better about yourself.

I've never really used my blog as a medium of talking about this kind of thing but I think this year I'll incorporate a bit more of myself into the blog, not just fashion. Don't worry I'm not going to turn this into a blog full of rants! but if I have a platform to speak I think I should make the most of it. I'm also pretty close to the 10,000 page view mark which I'm excited about so I've got lots of blogs planned to help me reach it.
I usually try to avoid the whole cheesy "new year new me" stuff because even though it's a new year you're definitely still the same you. I think it's better to say to yourself that you'll stay the same but with a few tweaks to improve your well being, like I definitely need to stop eating fried chicken and sit in the sunshine more often.

Before I go I do need to apologise for my lapse in blogging, I've had a serious case of writers block and even though I had so much to say I just couldn't find the words. Hopefully this year I'll find them a bit easier and get my page views to 10,000 and thank you to all of you who are avid readers and have gotten me so close to the 10k mark! Sometimes I feel like I'm writing to myself but when I see your lovely comments it makes me happy to know someone agrees with and enjoys my mad ramblings.

Lots of love and kisses,
Katie.
